8 Days Bird Watching Experience
The 8 days bird watching experience will take you to the wilderness bastion of the northern wildlands of Meru national park and Samburu national reserve - two of the most iconic wilderness regions with great birdlife encounters. Later on your trip you will visit the great rift valley for another amazing birdlife experience in some of the great rift valley lakes teeming with great birdlife.
Days 1-3: Meru National Park
After breakfast, you will be transferred to your local airstrip onto your schedule flight to Meru National Park. On landing you will be met and assisted to transfer and check in at the famous Elsa's Kopje. Barely visible on approach, Elsa’s Kopje blends seamlessly into its surrounds. Perched high on top of Mughwango Hill, this superb lodge stands as tribute to Elsa, the orphaned lioness made famous in the movie Born Free. Charming cottages are crafted around the natural features of the hill, each with a spacious bedroom, open sitting rooms, ensuite bathroom and large veranda with breath-taking views of the savannah below. Elsa’s Private House – with double rooms, a sitting room, veranda and plunge pool – is ideal for families.
Meru National park has a diverse avifauna, with over 300 species recorded. The threatened Jungle Babbler, which has a very restricted-range in central Kenya, has recently been documented, near Kindani and Nyati Camps in the south-west part of the park. Meru has one of the eight species of Kenya Mountains Endemic Bird Area and fifty-nine of the 94 Somali-Masai biome species that occur in Kenya. Regionally threatened species recorded here, include the Martial Eagle, African Finfoot (an Intra-African migrant), Pel’s Fishing-Owl, Grant’s Woodhoopoe and the Saddle-billed Stork which is known to breed in this area.
Day 4-6: Samburu National Reserve
After breakfast, you will transfer to a local airstrip, where you will catch a flight to Samburu National Reserve. On arrival you will be received and transferred to Elephant Bedroom Camp for an early lunch. Elephant Bedroom Camp provides a rustic yet stylish experience along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, in Samburu National Reserve. The classic safari camp is easily accessible all year round. Multiple nearby airstrips mean that guests can enjoy a short transfer of no longer than an hour, with a game drive en route.
Samburu national reserve offers excellent Kenya birding opportunities and it is recognized as an Important Birding Area in Kenya, the reserve boosts over 680 bird species living in various habitants scattered around the park such as Acacia riverine, savannah grasslands and around the banks of Ewaso Ng'iro river. Birds in Samburu national reserve include 21 globally threatened species, 3 introduced species, migrant and resident species to spot.

Days 7: Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, you will be transferred to a local airstrip for your schedule flight to Lake Nakuru National Park, on arrival you will check in at the Elmenteita Serena Camp. Lake elmenteita serena camp is located on the shores of the sparkling Lake Elementeita found within the Soysambu wildlife Conservancy, the camp is situated about 135 kilometers from Nairobi about 2 hours drive from Nairobi and a short distance from the flamingo filled Lake Nakuru. Lake Elmenteita Serena camp offers a private safari tent retreat within the un spoilt magnificence of Kenya’s Soysambu Conservancy, these tents are spacious and impeccably appointed to offer you a home away from home. Each tent features charming décor and equipped with one king or two twin beds comfortable four poster beds, a small sitting area and a bathroom with 24 hour hot showers and double vanities. The bedrooms have deluxe linens, mosquito netting on the beds, cozy chair and well lit-work desk with pen postcards.
Birding in Lake Nakuru National Park is a great adventure and experience all together; you will be blown away by the numerous birds that live in this 118km2 park. Lake Nakuru National Park is home of over 450 bird species that are both endemic and migratory to the park. Though famously Known for the pink flamingos that cover the Lake Nakuru’s shores pink all through the year, the park is home to other endemic bird species like the pelican bird and four threatened bird species that are:- the Madagascar pond-heron, the Pallid Harrier, the Greater Spotted Eagle and the Grey-crested Helmet-shrike. Other birds that live in Lake Nakuru National Park either on the lake or in the diverse extended vegetation of bushy grasslands, acacia woodlands and euphorbia forest include but not limited to:- the black-necked Grebe, Long-tailed widowbird, Maccoa duck, Montane white-eye, Grey-headed Gull, Northern puffback, Pallid harrier, Gull-billed Tern, Red-capped lark, Rufous-throated wryneck, Yellow-billed Stork, Rüppell’s vulture, Rüppell’s robin-chat, Little Grebe, Schalow’s wheatear, Shining sunbird, African Spoonbill, Slender-billed greenbul, Black-winged Stilt and many more.
Day 8: Departure, Transfer Nairobi
After a sumptous breakfast, you will be transferred via road to Nairobi. Arrive in the afternoon for lunch at the famous Carnivore Restaurant - known for its wide arrays of meats. Later on you will be assisted to transfer to JKIA for your onward international flight.
